Dimensions

DM·2019 [45–55]

‘Dimensions’ was created across 2018 and 2019 and marks a tonal shift from ‘Elements’ before it. The album features just 3 vocal tracks, as I was really enjoying creating more instrumental soundscapes which incorporated new elements like brass and harps.

In this period of my life I experienced some quantum shifts in both my internal and external worlds, and reality felt a very different (and newly thrilling) place. I plumbed new depths but also soared to previously unknown heights — and channelled this into sound.

I’m proud of this work and the way it encapsulates this very distinctive era, representing my development both with production and as an evolving human. Just like ‘Elements’ it’s far from perfect technically speaking, but I can’t change things now. Time has enshrined these songs for me and it would feel wrong for me to make changes to any of them, for I’m very happy with them just as they are.

    Mirror

    3:16

The doorway. This era felt like stepping sideways into another version of myself. Less voice, more atmosphere. Stories told through scale and texture rather than lyrics.

    Fires

    3:33
Now the sun has gone down Can you see me, oh? Lit the fires, coming back Until you see what you've lost Jump the engine while the power's on, oh Say goodbye to your mother and your sister, oh Set the place to come save me From the way that you go Say you want me to be there When you're saying hello In the woods you found a baby there sleeping alone Saw the sun in her eyes Knew where to go, oh Let the fire come and find you When you say you don't know (You don't know) Let your baby know When you say don't go Let your baby know Lit the fires, lit the fires Lit the fires, lit the fires Lit the fires, coming back Until you see me, oh

This song is a bit of a mystery even to me. The lyrics spilled out of me from some higher place and it felt a bit like a spiritual experience producing it.

A story buried in symbols I still don’t fully understand, but feel a really strong resonance with. The middle section, removed in the video version, has a line where I sing about finding a baby in the woods sleeping alone, seeing the sun in its eyes and knowing where to go — even today I wonder what the baby symbolises.

    Atlas

    3:25

This track continues the voyage, opening into wide, drifting soundscapes and distant signals.

I was following sound into unfamiliar inner terrain, reaching for thoughts and feelings that felt just beyond language, almost otherworldly.

    Depths

    3:01

A film-soundtrack-style piece written for a whirlwind romance. A little cinematic score for something I couldn’t find words for.

    Crossroads

    2:31

The moment of arriving at a fork in the road. Drum timing deliberately just out of step in the first part before the leap of faith into the conclusion.

    Helix

    3:03
What am I doing here? What am I doing here? What, what am I doing here? What, what am I doing here? What am I doing? What am I doing here? I don't belong, don't belong, don't belong here I don't belong and what am I doing? What am I doing here? What am I doing doing doing doing doing doing doing doing doing What am I doing here? What am I doing?

A song that became one repeated question. “What am I doing here?” I left it that way.

    Emperor

    3:07

Big and regal. Orchestral and electronic locked in love. Dancing into power.

    Rainfall

    2:53

Rain as release. Percussion and horns as distant thunder. Hypnotic emotional wildfire through submission.

    Emergence

    2:48

Uplift without optimism. The sound of climbing out of a hole slowly, bone by bone.

    Gallows

    2:33
What did that wise old man say again? Something about going back to where you started off Something about rewriting stories, oh Hope you want to write it again, oh Can't sit with this much longer in my head Hoping that you feel it too Guess it takes a bigger man To love and love without a plan Keep facing frontways When we coulda ran When we coulda ran Takes a miracle that you ain't sick of the sight of my face Now they're gonna take us down to the gallows That we found Ooh, we don't mind Used to living in the shadows We were bound We were bound We were bound We were bound

Loving someone no matter what. Being prepared to go wherever as long as we’re together.

Used to living in the shadows / We were bound, we were bound, we were bound, we were bound.

    Metamorphosis

The final transformation. The album closing not with resolution but evolution.
